We’ve spent the last two days steaming up the coast of northern Mexico and California, it’s been very relaxing, but the weather has become very cool and overcast. This next stop in San Francisco is a home coming for us, we live about an hour north, and with the ship overnighting here we plan to spend the first day at home and the second acting as tour guides for our friends Christine and Ray. At about 5:30AM this morning the Queen Victoria sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge and entered San Francisco Bay; we’ve done it before, but somehow it felt extra special today – perhaps because this the longest we’ve cruised so far? The iconic red bridge appeared in the distance, illuminating our way; it seemed take an age to finally reach the structure and then woosh we were under and on our way to the dock. The sun had still not risen by the time we docked at pier 27, the “new” cruise terminal in San Francisco. From our balcony we watched the docking procedure and had a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge, Coit Tower and another cruise ship docked at the “old” cruise terminal. Finally the sun came up and the view was further enhanced, including a stunning image of the moon setting right over the Golden Gate. We opted for early bird disembarkation and after a short wait in the theater we were escorted down to the immigration desks in the terminal where we had no problems with our documentation and found ourselves outside the terminal by about 8:30AM. Our daughter Laura had spent the night in San Francisco and promptly picked us up and we were on our way home for haircuts, laundry, shopping and taxes.
