We spent a very nice past 5 days crossing the Atlantic, it’s been very relaxing, smooth sailing and great weather. There have been some excellent guest speakers including historian Andrew Lownie who talked about the Mountbattens and the Windsors, broadcaster Johnny Beerling who talked about Elton John and Roy Orbison, journalist Paddy O’Connel who talked about his mother’s work at Bletchley Park, and naval architect Dr. Stephen Payne (designer of the QM2) who talked about the Titanic.

The food on this crossing was very good and we enjoyed a couple of meals in the Varandah Restaurant. This was the first time we chose “open dining” in the Britannia Restaurant – a somewhat new concept for Cunard where guests get to go to dinner at any time between 6:30 and 9:00PM, with no pre-assigned table. While the flexibility of dining when you want was attractive, we didn’t care for not having the same wait staff each night which comes with not having pre-assigned tables – we probably won’t choose this option again.

As we won’t need any formal ware for our stay in New York, we have once again arranged to ship bags using Luggage Forward when we disembark. I spent a bit of time figuring out how to get the labels printed and attached to the bags. The Luggage Forward Company were very helpful and answered my emails very promptly and the pursers desk did the printing and provided the branded clear plastic attachment envelopes – the whole process was very easy.
