Sunday January 26th, 2025 Barbados

I was greeted with a beautiful sight this morning as I went out on to our balcony in Barbados; a magnificent square-rigged sailing ship was slowing making its way into port, though under engine power. The Sea Cloud II is actually a small cruise ship and its sister vessel, the Sea Cloud, was also in port. Both ships belong to a small cruise line that offers “eco-friendly” voyages.

It being Sunday, we weren’t expecting much to be open in Bridgetown today and after a short taxi ride into town we discovered that, indeed, everything was shut. We’ve been to Barbados quite a few times, and been around the island to see the sights, so we didn’t feel the need to venture further afield. We opted for a quiet afternoon back on board the ship.

Tonight we set sail for Brazil, an odd term since we don’t have any sails – “set engine for Brazil” just doesn’t sound so good.
