Having gained back five hours of time since we left Southampton, and with the ship steering south-easterly courses since we left New York, last night the ships clocks moved forward one hour and so are now only four hours behind GMT. We are having a bit of a lazy day today, though the weather is definitely to warm up a bit, and we managed a few laps of the deck this morning – with no jumpers on! Last night we passed close to Bermuda on our southerly course for St. Martin. Soon we may start to see some whales and maybe flying fish, I’ve already seen some of the floating green Sargassum seaweed that is common to these waters. Our friends are keen watercolor painters, and the ship offers free classes twice per day, and so I decided to join them. It should be noted that I do not have any artistic skill whatsoever – but I was assured that this would not be a problem; I have however seen some of their work and I have to admit to being a bit (a lot) intimidated. So at the appointed time, having plucked up my courage, I toodled off to the corner of the upper level of the Britannia Restaurant where the art classes take place only to be inform that the class was full! I’ll try again after the end of this leg, hopefully some people will be getting off in San Francisco. It should be noted that I had traded off taking the art class over going to the second Panama Canal lecture as they were scheduled at the same time; by the time I had tried to get into the art class I had missed the start of the lecture. However the lectures are recorded and rebroadcast in the cabins so hopefully I can see the lecture later. That night we enjoyed a really superb Italian dinner at the alternative dining venue.
