This morning we took breakfast in the hotel; it was included in our room rate – up on the 6th floor the restaurant has spectacular views of the harbor from a large deck area. A combination of buffet and menu-ordered items made for a fantastic variety, and we were both very satisfied with our breakfasts.
One of the advantages of a small “boutique” hotel is the attention to detail and the little extras – one thing we really appreciated was a free small shuttle bus to the cruise terminal. The hotel obviously caters to cruise passengers as the staff were very well versed with the terminals and boarding process.
The boarding process today was arduous; standing in line to wait for the terminal to open and sitting around at each stage of the check-in process. Somehow our boarding passes did not have “Priority Boarding” printed on them, this should have happened based on our status with Cunard – and so this added a bit to the waiting. Eventually we got to our cabin, dropped our hand luggage and headed to the Red Lion pub for lunch. On returning to the cabin later we found our bags all present and correct, including those that we had shipped by Luggage Forward, an excellent service.
The evening sail away was smooth and, as always, exciting. We watched from our balcony as the Queen Mary 2 was expertly maneuvered out from her birth at the Mayflower Cruise Terminal and began to slowly progress down the River Test and out into Southampton Water. Tomorrow we’ll be in France.
