This morning we said goodbye to our fantastic wait staff in the Queen’s Grill restaurant, last night was our final sleep in the beautiful but noisy and shaky Queens’ Grill suite (8179); even though we loved the restaurant that went along with the suite, we are glad to be moving to a more stable stateroom. Yesterday we packed up all our things in the suite but were able to leave all of our clothes on hangers in the wardrobes – this morning the cabin staff moved everything along the corridor to 8111 our original balcony cabin.

The weather finally warmed up a bit, along with the humidity, for our day in Fort Lauderdale. We had a very low key day, taking the shuttle bus into town where it dropped us at a large shopping mall. Some things were intentionally left off our packing list when we left home, with the intention of picking them up along the way – so we used today to purchase or final supplies in the US.

The ship’s shuttle bus drove along the ocean frontage road and it was evident that Fort Lauderdale must be a very popular spot in the summer. It was a bit like Cocoa Beach but with many high end hotels facing the long skinny beach, so really not like Cocoa Beach at all – this was up-market and sophisticated, not beach bum at all.

Every time I visit a shopping mall, I wish I hadn’t; I never liked them even when they were full of shops. Now it seems that malls everywhere are suffering the same fate, with many retail locations unused and signs promising a brighter future that never seems to arrive. It reminds we of what it must have been like when dinosaurs were going extinct, which is odd as I obviously wasn’t around when dinosaurs were going extinct. Online shopping, the meteor of the shopping mall.

Next stop Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
