A quick cabin update.
Yesterday when we came back from our trip into Fort Lauderdale, we found that all of our things had been successfully moved into 8111 and we set about unpacking and stowing everything for the remainder of the voyage, we were excited to be settling into our new home. Pretty soon we noticed an intermittent but prominent tapping sound; at first, we thought this was coming from the closet in the cabin next door – unused coat hangers banging around. I found the cabin steward and had him check out the closet next door, but the annoying noise continued, it was like a doomed sailor in a sunken submarine tapping out his call for help on one of the subs pipes. It kept us awake most of the night.
This morning I called the purser’s office, and the technical department was duly dispatched to sought out the problem. Later we were informed that there was a problem with a steam pipe above our cabin and that it would take some days to find a final solution. In the meantime we were offered another cabin, 8055, along the corridor from ours as a “sleeping cabin” until the problem could be fixed. It’s a bit ridiculous; after getting all ready for bed, we don bathrobes, troop down the corridor to our sleeping cabin and then reverse the process in the morning.
