Saturday, January 7th, 2023 At Sea Queen Mary 2

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

This morning we attended the second lecture by The Royal Butler, Grant Harrold which was once again in The Royal Court Theater and very well attended. In this lecture Grant talked about his background and how he became a butler, which was his ambition since he was a little boy; he grew up in Scotland and enjoyed visiting the royal castles and became infatuated with joining the royal household. Grant had also seen a documentary which showed the traditional Ghillies Ball, with lots of Scottish country dancing, at Balmoral Castle - he set his sights on dancing with the Queen. Grant explained how he did in fact get the chance to fulfill his ambition and dance with the queen.

We are now about halfway across the Atlantic and the sea continues to become more unsettled. Designed as a true ocean liner Queen Mary 2 has an undoubted ability to handle rough seas, but there is a fair amount of rocking and rolling tonight. In fact, we were awoken at about 2AM due to the rough ride and the banging and clattering from various things around the cabin that suddenly gained motion, wine glasses, glass water bottles, coat hangers etc. I was forced to make several sorties from bed in the dark to track down the sources of noise. Needless to say we had a very restless night.
