Wednesday, February 1st, 2023 Queen Victoria, at sea

The first of two sea days before our next port of call in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Another very peaceful and quiet day.I attended a lecture today by maritime historian Cathy Shelbourne entitled “The Life and Times of Thomas Cavendish, Circumnavigator Extraordinaire”. Cavendish who was born in 1560 was a contemporary of Sir Francis Drake and, like Drake, spent time as a privateer (licensed pirate) praying on Spanish galleons and settlements in the new world. Ms. Shelbourne was good presenter and shared her deep knowledge of the main characters surrounding Cavendish as well as the political and economic situation that drove this era of great exploration. This evening was a gala night, which means dressing up in our finest outfits; I got to use my new white dinner jacket for the first time – apparently these only come into play when we are in tropical climes. Sandra wore a beautiful red and black gown.
